Trade, catering, consumer services
Trade and catering is one of the most important spheres of life-support. For the period of market-transition time the entrepreneurial activity in this sphere has showed most of all, the biggest quantity of enterprises of non-state sector of economics has appeared, the competition surrounding has been formed.
Along with the growth of volumes of production by the enterprises of local processing food industry the increase of sales of consumer commodities is observed. On the territory of Kherson the sales of such kind of commodities are made through 4140 outlets of trade, catering and consumer services, among which - 2951 retailing enterprises (among which - 1850 stores and departments), 413 wholesale warehouses, 639 catering enterprises and 701 – consumer services.
In the city there is a branched system of brand-trade, namely: 153 brand-units, among which – trade of food products - 142 (among which 60 on the city markets). In 2007 more than 20 retail stores were opened, among which there were modern stores: "DZ”, „Firma”, “Vario”, „Novyi Arbat”.
The volume of retail turnover in Kherson has increased in 5 times in comparison with the year of 2001 and in 2007 it was 2253,6 mil.UAH.
The increase of production volumes of consumer goods by the native industry, the spread and renewal of its assortment and the growth of competitiveness changed in a positive way the situation on the inner consumer market – several imported goods have been gradually replaced by the native ones.
By the simultaneous growth of goods’ sales of food and nonfood products the bigger growth is demonstrated by the nonfood group of products (for 8,5% and 21,9% in compared prices).
In the group of food products there is a growth in selling of meat and poultry (in 59,2%), sausages (in 31,9%), fish and sea-products (in 43,2%), fat (in 43,1%) with the simultaneous decrease of consumption of sugar (in 16,9%), meat fat (in 16,8%), meat cans (in 13,2%), and that means the definite improvement of citizens’ food allowance.
Among nonfood products the sales of long-range products has actively increased: cars (in 51,1%), washing machines (in 56%), refrigerating equipment (in 52%), TV-, radio- and video-equipment (in 2,2 times), furniture (in 52%).
Services to the Kherson citizens are performed by 13 markets and 6 market-towns. Annually the exhibitions, dedicated to holidays, are organized on the city markets to support enterprises of local industry.
