Investment activity
At the modern stage our economy needs considerable foreign investments.
General volume of direct foreign investments in the economy of the city on 01.07.2008 made up 89,1 million USD (52,7% to the general volume for the region) and makes up 253,7 USD for one person. Foreign capital augmentation in January–June of 2008 made up 9,8 million USD (12,4% to the volumes of the year beginning).
Investments came from 30 countries of the world, meanwhile 84% ones of their general volume are the share for 4 of them. Four biggest countries–investors are: Virgin Britannic Islands - 36,1 million USD, Cyprus - 23,9 million USD, United Kingdom – 8,5 million USD, Netherlands - 6,2 million USD.
Foreign investments are inlaid into 110 enterprises of the city. By the 1st July of 2008 the biggest volumes of foreign investments are concentrated on the enterprises of industry – 63,8 millions USD.
VAT “Kherson Plant of Grain Production”, ZAT “Freedom Farm International”, DE “Vendel'n Ukraine”, VAT “Kherson oil-processing complex” have the considerable investment sums.
At the first quarter of 2008 the volume of export goods and services made up 64,9 million USD; a volume of import ones - 30,9 million USD.
The value of the city enterprises goods and services in external trade made up 95,8 million USD for current period. Balance of the external trading is positive and makes up 34,0 million USD.
For three months of the current year 5 meetings with the representatives of foreign countries with the purpose of investment attractiveness of the city were conducted. There discussed such questions as foundation of new enterprises in Kherson, house building and small business development.
The Norwegian–Ukrainian program «Clean production», carried out by the specialists of world-known company ТЕКNА, lasts in the city. With the assistance of Foreign Ministry of Norway, the best project will receive credit under low percents from the Scandinavian Financial Corporation. We’d like to underline that introduction of the program «Clean production» at the enterprises of Kherson and the region is the first step to the certification by the standard of ISO-14001, in fact Kherson was a test ground for «Clean production». The themes of works are various enough, for example: a reconstruction and modernization of treatment facilities on territory of biosphere preserve Askania-Nova; introduction of manufacturing automation at the forced circulation stations of plumbing and sewage economy of the city; project on the reconstruction of forced circulation complex of village water-supply; development of measures on increase of efficient usage of energy recourses as well. The next stage of the Program starts already by the autumn of this year.
The investment proposals on the projects of building of the ІІ turn of microregion „Korabel-2” and microregion „Tavriyskyi-4” were given, and the Program of House Building Development in the city of Kherson for 2005-2010 years was presented for the visiting session of the International meeting of Trade–club in Ukraine, which took place in March, 2008 in Kherson.
In April, 2008 they participated in International Forum «Megapolis: XXI century» on theme «Cities are resource for social and economic development of countries» in Moscow. The first in CIS review-competition "The Best city of CIS" was the key event of forum. In nomination «Effective local self-government» Kherson got a diploma for the developed realization of the programs on social and economic development of the city.
